Lecture Information

Jane Darin has lectured multiple times at a few guilds in the greater Quad Cities area.  These guilds have asked Jane to return after her initial speaking engagement.  Jane has been quilting for more than 25 years and has earned a blue ribbon from the Illinois State Fair in addition to several Mississippi Valley Quilt Guild ribbons. She has directed two local quilt shows and coordinated multiple community quilt displays. In recent years, Jane has focused on creating quilts as charitable gifts to Project Linus, Habitat for Humanity, Quilts of Valor, Cunningham Children’s Home, and her local guild’s charity group. With Jane’s breadth of experience, she offers great perspective on all parts of the quilting process during her lectures—integrating aspects of designing, piecing, and even sewing machine know how.

Jane’s Programs

Using Your Scraps and Stash (1 hr)

Let’s talk using your scraps while integrating fabrics from your stash. Take those simple units and turn them into spectacular quilts! In this lecture, Jane discusses how to conquer your pile of scraps and integrate accents, borders, and more from your stash to create a cohesive, beautiful quilt.  Jane highlights the importance of color, value, and fabric choice. In addition to slides showing the variation of different quilts that support this lecture, the audience also get a trunk show with many of Jane’s quilts that feature these techniques.

Enhancing Your Quilts with Appliqué (1 hr)

Most quilts can be enhanced with a little appliqué.  In this program, Jane covers the different kinds of appliqué, the pros and cons of each type, and the practical applications. With Jane’s experience and knowledge, she recognizes the vast variety of appliquéing techniques, and she integrates those discussions into this presentation. Do you fuse it? Complex or simple shapes? She’ll cover it all! Jane will also spend time talking about placement, template choices, construction, and thread selection. In addition to slides showing close ups of each appliqué technique, the audience get a trunk show with many of Jane’s quilts that feature these techniques.  Let’s enhance that quilt with a little appliqué.

Fast, Fun And Fabulous Quilts (1 hr)

Quilts don’t have to be stressful or take years to finish. In this lecture, Jane will share her tips, techniques, and shortcuts.  These quilts come together fast and quick but have a Fabulous design.  Making these quilts fun for the more advanced yet simple enough for the beginner.  These techniques allow many quilters to make more, so you can give more.  You can be successful whether you want to elevate standard piecing, get the “scrappy look” without cutting millions of little pieces, or combine simple units to create outstanding quilts.  A trunk show feature these Fast, Fun and Fabulous Quilts.
