Quilting Traditions Quilt Show

Almost 2 years ago our church jumped into the Quilt Show arena.  We had a fantastic 1 day show that made over $750 for our missions and exhibited more that 300 quilt pieces.  We have decided to jump with both feet into the show. Our show is September 11th & 12th at Port Byron First United Methodist Church in Port Byron, IL
These are some of the pictures from 2 years ago.

If you have the opportunity to come out we would love to see you.

There is a $3 admission and luncheon by donation.

Come see what the Upper Rock Island quilting community has to offer.

Both new and historical quilts present.

Hope to see you there.
We are still looking for quilts from the surrounding area.  Forms need to be filled out and returned by August 29th.  Forms are available at the church.

Happy Quilting.

Finish It Up Friday—Bathroom Update

This was the year we updated the master bathroom.  We have been in this house for over 15 years.  Some of the master bath towels…have seen better days.  New towels appeared under the Christmas tree.  The bath deco went from a celery green to dark brown.  The curtains were the last thing.  DSC02765 (593x1024)Our house is located in the sticks, boondocks, end of the road-literally.  We have only 2 families that drive past our house and with a beautiful lake and park like yard, why cover up the view, so coverings are minimal.  Our curtains in the bathroom were made from 2 layers of green sheer crinkle fabric and is edged with sheer green ribbon folded in half held up with shower curtain tension rods.  This worked great.  The ribbon looks like a design element and made finishing the edge of the thin slippery crinkly fabric so easy and the shower rods were thicker than ordinary small ones.  This is a small rod for a very small window.
Since Christmas, any trips to the store include looking for curtains to accent the new towels.  Trips included Penneys, Younkers, Hancock Fabrics and various other stores.  If I could find thin bottom tier drapes in the appropriate color-heaven!  Finally found some fabric that would work.  Took the picture and discussed with DH if he wanted FLOWERS all over his bathroom….yep!  Off with a coupon and ready to commit to making them.  Just after opening at Hancock’s had a discussion w/clerk.
Me:” I need 9 ft. X 2…make that 6 yards of fabric”  as the clerk starts unwinding the fabric.  “Oh…just out of curiosity how much is it?”
Clerk: $19.99
Me: “Stop, UH, really.”
With coupon, down to $10/yd.  That still is $60 for 2 panels.  Looked all around the store for something else, I had already done that the day I took the pictures.  It was time to move on.  Time to try Hobby Lobby, swap states (cross the Mississippi and you are in a new state)and back to curtains.  Found a panel on clearance at Hobby Lobby.  The panel will no longer fit in the bag…$2.16.  The panel is also available at full price..$11.99. These are way too thin for my purpose but thinking of all the browns in my stash, decided I could work with them.  DSC02766 (1024x765)
Ripping out the rod pocket & cutting the panel in half then just sewed it to the original curtains.  The green shows through and looks great.  They are the proper weight.  The girls like them…DH had to be reminded to look, men.   These 2 windows are out of the $2.16.  Now to cut into the $11.99 panel for the small window.DSC02763 (768x1024)
The Amaryllis is lovely.  There is a second bloom getting ready to open.  Lois, one of the Project Now Ladies gave these to all of her drivers.  Volunteering is great.  On another note, one of the shelter dogs I walked on Monday found a home!
Time to pull out a project.  Quilting on a UFO!

The Morning View

DH had a business dinner out of town.  He took me to the big city for a little jaunt…..over 1500 miles in 24 hrs.

This was the breakfast view this morning.

This afternoon back to the quilt.  This is needed for a Benefit on November 30th.  The binding is being put on by the top maker, so I need to keep working.

I wanted to show just a bit of how I did the loop-d-loo’s.  These look way harder than they are.  First draw a line with something that can be removed later, my favorite is a grey pencil. Stitch along the line you drew.  You do not have to hit the line exactly….once the line is gone no one but you know whether you hit it dead on.  Stitch the loops back along the line so the connection lands on the line you stitched. As you look at my sample some fall above the line, some fall below the line and some hit.  Remember the overall look is more important than each individual stitch.  The tension will be better is you don’t rush, I tend to rush at the top of the loop, try to slow down at the top. After the loops are done, stitch another straight line and use your foot edge to keep a consistent width between the lines.  Follow that line up with the loop-d-loo’s back down the line.  To alter the pattern, try different size loops, different distances, or something besides a loop (hearts or leaves work).
DSC02697 (1024x768)I am making sections with the double lines and loop-d-loo’s and filling in the sections.  So far the sections include Baptist fans, meander, spirals and now the “railroad” looking thing above.
It is nice to be home, but after 2 long days in the airports, I am off to bed.

Happy Quilting,

Linky Tuesday Project

Here is the latest quilting project.  The top maker requested the bright raspberry thread. Goods and bads to that...you can see every stitch.  I like the results so far. What do you think?

Check out the other links at Linky Tuesday.

A Little Charity Work

DSC02688 (1024x875)One of the things that I want to achieve with the new schedule of no work…more charitable activities.

Here is this years Christmas Traditions Quilt.  Traditions is 3 weeks away and this is the earliest we have ever finished the quilt.

DSC02693 (1024x894)Our guild supplies 1000 doll quilts each years to the different local organizations.  Here are a few that just needed quilting.  It is a great chance for me to work on my free motion quilting and some more to be finished before the end of the year.

Here is my work for the day.....The picture does not do justice to these beautiful intense batiks.  These are great plums, lavenders and eggplants.     DSC02695 (1024x679)
This gorgeous 1600 quilt a friend/coworker made and is going to a benefit for another coworker.  She has had several strokes and is young with a family.  The benefit includes trivia night and auction items and is scheduled for November 30th, so I better get to it.
Stop over to Judy L's. That Patchwork Times and check out the other design walls.
Have a Good One….
