Finish It Up Friday

Early this summer I finished up a quilt. Thought it was time to share.

This quilt is Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt from 2014-Grand Illusion. It is based on the d├ęcor at the Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island in Michigan. Mackinaw Island holds a dear place in my heart as I passed near it many times through my college career.

Grand Illusion was completed while Bonnie was in our area back in June.

I decided to go with a slightly smaller version than the original design. My leftover corner parts from the main block were put together and then framed with black prints (5" charms) to make this second piece.  The outer border was found on clearance at Michael's.  This is a top at this point.

I am linking up with CrazyMomQuilter.  Stop over and check out some of the great things Amanda Jean is working on.

Keep sewing.
Just Another Quilter

  1. I like the way the black frames in your second quilt just bracket the corners rather than going all around the stars. You have a great eye for design!

  2. So often the corners around the star and the geese are the same color. I really like the contrast of the blue, pink/red?, and yellow! It is a really interesting layout. ---"Love"

  3. Love your Grand Illusion! It was the first mystery quilt of Bonnie's that I participated in. It's on my daughter's bed. Yours looks great! I'd love to have you link up to Finished or Not Fridays each week!

  4. It's gorgeous! Those jewel colours almost seem to glitter. The borders are fantastic and I like your second quilt. Lovely work.

  5. Wow on both quilts! I really love that there's a second quilt that matches but is its own design. Those black frames are what do it. I agree, stunning work!

  6. Just in time to start ANOTHER Bonnie Mystery!!!

  7. It looks great! I love the colors you chose, which I know can be hard when you don't know what it will look like in then end.
