Well, I made some progress. The white background looks great.
While digging for the white fabric, I came across 3 more fat quarters from the turquoise bundle.
The Accuquilt Go! Die is decided….only one will fit in the allotted space.
The fabric for the applique is still up for grabs. Take a look at some of the fabrics in the stack of coins. The stripe on the left is the border stripe. The next five fabrics are all in contention. The multi splatter was MY favorite fabric (before the fat quarters showed up) choice for the applique, but it would have to be purchased. The dark turquoise on top left is a great option, however, the weave is a little loose and it might ravel. It might also be a little too much contrast against the white. The bottom lighter turquoise is only currently in the quilt once (just found the fat quarters…man it would have been nice to have had them last week) and clashes slightly with the dark turquoise. This can be seen in the quilt right by the empty center on the right. The green diamond fabric, well it seems to be more of a blue quilt than green. That leaves the blue green dahlia style print. Opinions are needed, there is enough fabric in the fat quarters to make the 4 applique sections. Would you go buy the splatter fabric or use one of the fat quarters? A piece of white needs to be purchased….nothing large enough is left.

Just Another Quilter
Oooh - I love that die - can't wait to see what fabric you go with! I found you over on Lily's Quilts Small Blog Meet - nice to "meet" you!
ReplyDeleteI like the multi-splatter, but think you should go with something you have on hand. The light turquoise or the dahlia fabric would do nicely, I'm thinking. And if you are going to applique it, why not outline it in dark turquoise (provided you have the proper color thread). Great job on this!

Oh, and while I am at it, HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU AND YOURS!

I would use one of the fabrics you have...but then I am on a mission to use what I have this year. The fabrics are beautiful so you can't go wrong.(The white looks great)
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year.
Ooh, this is lovely. I particularly love the blue-green dahlia fabric! I'm a sucker for those kinds of patterns though :) Happy New Year and nice to find you!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't help myself. I'd have to try the multi stripe (binding?) running alonng the length of the design rather than the width. To trial it I'd cut the shape of out card so I could lay it over the fabrics to see what I liked best. I wonder what you will choose? ann :-)
ReplyDeleteI have enough for the borders but only if I cut it going with the stripes perpendicular to the quilt. Depending on how wide I cut the border, I probably don't have enough for the binding. The binding might be scrappy with the splatter fabric and what is left of the stripe.
DeleteI like the lighter turqouise (and not just because I have a chunk of it in my stash too...holler if you want it!). The dahlia print is pretty, but I wonder if you'd lose the print with the applique and it would just look splotchy. And you're right - it is a blue quilt - so the blue applique is perfect. I wouldn't worry that you've only used the print a few times. There are so many prints in there, I doubt anyone will notice. And you could always claim you planned it that way - just used bits of the blue for the applique to make sure you had enough for the applique! But that's just my opinion and I'm sure whatever you end up choosing will be beautiful. I don't think any of those would be a bad choice, really.
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be so pretty! I like how the white makes it look so crisp! And since you have to buy more white anyway, I'd also buy more of the multi splatter just because it is so pretty with the other fabrics!
